St Edward’s, Oxford, a co-educational, boarding and day school for 13-18 in north Oxford.

'They’ll tell you it’s very down to earth – we thought it was flying high.'The Good Schools Guide

Founded in 1863, St Edward's is a vibrant co-educational boarding school offering a unique combination of a spacious 100-acre campus and access to a busy city renowned for its academic and cultural richness.

Underlying everything at ‘Teddies’ is our commitment to prepare pupils for their future by encouraging their passions and talents, enabling them to discover new ones, and supporting them to achieve their full potential.

Distinguishing us from other institutions, we are one of a few schools that offer both the International Baccalaureate (IB) and the A Level programme alongside each other at Sixth Form. We have also introduced new courses called ‘Pathways and Perspectives’ at GCSE level, tailored to the latest research on how young minds learn. These new courses sit alongside a core programme of eight or nine GCSEs and cover areas such as Sustainability, Creative Arts, Design, the Classical World, and Sports and Human Sciences.

Academic results at St Edward’s are on a sharp upward trend. In 2023, at A Level, just under 50% of grades were A*/A and 83% were A*-B. In the IB Diploma, 83% of all Higher-Level grades were Levels 7-5 and 16% of pupils achieved 38 points or more, the published threshold for the University of Oxford. At GCSE and in our own Pathways and Perspectives courses, some 40% were awarded at 9/8 and two-thirds were awarded at 9-7.

In 2020 we opened the dynamic new Christie Centre offering pupils world class academic facilities with flexible learning spaces and classrooms, a brand-new Library and a collegiate style top-floor reading room, designed specifically for the ways in which pupils learn today. This development includes the 1,000-seater Olivier Hall, where the whole School can come together for concerts and other events. These new spaces add to the already outstanding facilities at Teddies, including the high-specification Music School and The North Wall, a professional, nationally renowned theatre and arts centre on South Parade shared between St Edward’s and the local community.

Teddies is committed to offering a wide range of scholarships and bursaries. Any pupil applying for entry in Years 9, 10 or 12 is eligible to apply, and applications should be made by 1st October in the year of application.

At just over 800 pupils, St Edward's is a community large enough to offer endless opportunities, but small enough to ensure that everyone’s voice is heard. The 13 Houses provide a range of boarding options, with four being co-ed, four for boys and five for girls. The pupil community has a girl/boy split of 45%/55%, and approximately 86% of our pupil’s board, whilst 17% are from overseas from over 40 countries.

The main school Open Day takes place in May, with the Sixth Form Open Day in September. For details and to sign up, please visit: www.stedwardsoxford.org/admissions/open-days.
